A Step-by Step Course for Beginners

Have you always wanted to learn how to chant Torah but assumed you needed musical training or years of synagogue experience? This course is designed to make Torah chanting accessible, clear, and enjoyable, even for complete beginners.

Through carefully structured lessons, you will learn step by step how to recognize and chant the traditional trope marks used in Torah reading. The course includes extensive guided practice, downloadable worksheets, and repeated exercises that build confidence gradually and systematically.

No background in music is required. The course teaches the patterns in an approachable way, helping learners develop both familiarity and fluency over time.

Because Jewish communities use different melodic traditions, the course offers two musical options, allowing you to learn in the style that best fits your synagogue background or personal preference.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Recognize and interpret Torah trope symbols

  • Understand how trope structures the biblical text

  • Practice chanting with increasing independence and confidence

  • Prepare aliyot for synagogue participation or personal learning

This course is ideal for synagogue adults, adult b’nei mitzvah students, people in the process of conversion, future rabbinical students, and anyone who wants deeper access to Jewish textual and liturgical life.
